"Crit-Line let's me see what's happening
with my patients. It's like turning the lights on. "
Nurses value the information provided by
the Crit-Line for many reasons. Dedicated dialysis nurses employ
a variety of means to guide the fluid removal of their patients.
Blood pressure, pulse, breathing, etc. are used to evaluate
fluid status in the dialyzing patient. Additionally, sodium
modeling, ultrafiltration modeling, and patient position may
be manipulated to maximize the efficacy of the treatment. Crit-Line
is used in conjunction with these methods by actually displaying
what is happening to the circulating blood volume of the patient.
The ability to see plasma refilling (or to see it not occur)
allows the clinician to choose UF rates ideal for that particular
treatment or time within the treatment. UF modeling can now
be based on what is actually happening within the patient. Sodium
modeling can immediately be evaluated for effectiveness. Interventions
can occur BEFORE hypotension occurs. Simply stated the Crit-Line
allows maximal fluid removal without morbidity - truly better
patient care.
Whether challenging a patient's dry weight
or simply maintaining a comfortable treatment the Crit-Line
provides beneficial information. Chronic centers can benefit
with more accurate dry weight, reduced morbidity, and fewer
missed treatments; acute centers may realize an enhanced margin
of safety and reduced lengths of stay.
