SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- January 18, 2010 -- Hema Metrics announced earlier today that its proprietary anemia management software is now awaiting FDA 501 (k) clearance. The software, known as CLAM (Crit-Line Anemia Manager) is designed to help anemia managers more efficiently and accurately prescribe erythropoieses-stimulating agents (ESA's). The recommended ESA dose is based on a proprietary algorithm, which factors several patient variables, including the patient's pre-dialysis hematrocrit value as measured by the Crit-Line Monitor.
"With the new proposed bundling payment system, it will be more important than ever to use ESA's as efficiently as possible" said Patrick Moriarty, CEO of Hema Metrics. "We believe the CLAM Software will be a great tool to help all anemia managers prescribe the most efficient dose and the right dose for the independent variable needs of each patient. The initial data we have seen indicates that the amount of EPO prescribed in a 14-chair clinic can be reduced by as much as 14% once the CLAM Software has been implemented."
Hema Metrics anticipates the official release of the CLAM Software later this year. Further pre-release evaluations have been scheduled once the 510 (k) clearance processes has been completed.
